Dunno what's gone wrong, my monitor is displaying badly. But its weird that the problem seems to limit to some areas. In the screenshot you can see the icons are messed up, but things in Opera is good. ?
I tried using my old monitor, and I saw the same problem...... What can I do? cry

Im pretty sure its graphics card related.(if you already ruled out monitor) Could be your drivers, your graphics card maybe overheating or its dying.

Reinstall your drivers would be my first bet. Go to Device Manager and right click on ur video card and hit remove. Restart your comp and it will automatically reinstall the drivers.
Other obvious question is whether you've installed anything recently.

I tried uninstall/reinstall drivers. But no help. I might try to reinstall windows. Yesterday the first game I watched tas/jups playing and it was fine. Then things went bad when I started to play the second game.
I want to believe its a software problem, not the video card is damaged. Might just keep playing like that - it's like +3 skill.

If you have like an nvidia or ati why dont you just trying installing their new drivers and if that doesnt work then its probably a hardware problem. I doubt re-installing windows will help. anyways gl.

damn bird, the exact same thing happened to me like a year ago (it made go like 7 months without comp), its ur vid card, what happened to mine was that it over heated. itll get progressively worst untill u cant see anything, even outside of ron ;( gl to u will need it

Overheating can be the cause too, check your video card temperatures with something like ATITool (if you have an ATI card that is)...

I'm sure it's a software issue. A monitor functions very simply It gets some basic display instructions (resolution, color depth, etc.), and then it is sent bitmap image data which it draws. A graphics card formats the data before it gets to the monitor. Since your system isn't drawing icons properly, and icons are drawn on the display by Windows (Explorer), we know that there's some unaccounted error occuring on the OS level, [i617c019fb7]before any data is sent to the graphics card[/i617c019fb7], so it must be a Windows issue.
If you created a system restore point some time fairly recently before the problem came up (Run "restore" or Accessories --> System Tools --> System Restore), restoring from that point should definently fix the problem. If you made a hard backup of all your system data and put in on a CD some time fairly recently, restoring from that is guaranteed to fix it. If you don't have a restore point or a system backup, you will probably have to re-install Windows from CD.
If you suspect a virus, you could try booting up in safe mode (Run "msconfig" --> you can figure it out from there )) If you don't have the problem in safe mode, you can later use MSConfig (Or Run "regedit") to manually disable processes that launch on startup until you find the process that was causing the problem.
I hope you can fix the problem.

If it's the video card, Rooty, why isn't Windows drawing certain icons properly? ? The video card doesn't draw the icons -- Windows draws the icons into a temporary bitmap image of the display, [ic1a5c2418a]then[/ic1a5c2418a] it goes to the video card. The video card simply formats the display image. If the video card were to misformat the display, either your monitor would give you an error, or the monitor would interpret the misformatted data and draw an illegible interpretation of the display. The video card and monitor don't even know where the icons are in the display image; there's no way either could screw up drawing the icons but not screw up other parts of the display. But on top of that, a video card is hardware with a fixed, invariable set of instructions, and hardware can only be damaged physically -- software cannot alter the invariable funtioning of hardware.

You don't get it. Graphics cards don't "die". If it overheats, lacks power, or a circuit is physically damaged, it will stop functioning period. If the color values of certain pixels on the display aren't what they should normally be, then it's a software issue. I suppose it's possible that the video card is consistently misformatting the display, but I don't see how it could happen.

sure they can die - or even just act sick. you can have RAM on the graphics card that fails intermittently (heat related or bad solder joints, etc.) i had a card that didn't fail solid, but would just display random shit depending on what part of memory was crapping out.
if memory is screwed you can get strange stuff happening, coz the values stored in memory may not be consistent.

anyway, I had the same exact problem just two weeks ago. What happened is that the game would freeze, icons would be fucked up. Basically, the video card is overheating, so check the cards fans and make sure they work properly. When I cleaned out the fan for the graphics card, the temperature dropped and the game ran fine and also the display.

Bird, I'd suggest getting a loaner video card and testing with it. If you've reinstalled drivers and windows it's probably hardware, and video card is the most likely culprit.

I think I solve the problem. I opened the case and was intended to clean the fan of the card. Then I found that there are no screws to fix the card in position firmly (how can that happen? ? ) I pulled the card out and put it back in place firmly. Now it works again.
I think I shaked the card when I was moving this weekend, or when I attached the signal cable back.
