I'm not gonna take part in this tourney cuz it runs right after my finals week (and during my finals week) and I'm gonna be exhausted. /

This sux - I know 3 other people who can't enter because it's final exams for high school - I wonder if a postponement of a week or 2 is in order?

well at least I got the 2nd best grade (
too bad it's in Finnish =p

What kind? Do you take a whole course? @_@
KBS_Gladiator
29-05-2005 03:40:30
No, it's just part of an introductory calculus course and only just Seperable d.e.'s. Of course, the AP Calculus students take it a little farther.

When I look at something I'm building, and there's an angle there needed that if done correctly will even out the sides, and I move one thing as a calculated guess and, as usual, it's in the perfect place, is this advanced trigonometry done naturally cos I'm genius - or is everything I've built gonna fall down )

I remember taking Calculus in high school. I just remember taking it, not anything about it. I think I spent 85% of my time cutting math class in my final year. I already had a scholarship to college secured so I figured I may as well enjoy myself. ;)
They gave a standardized test in math early in my last year of high school. I apparently had the third highest score in the entire state! I concluded that I must be living in a pretty stupid state. QED
Differential equations. Aren't those the ones that take three pages of calculations to come up with the solution to one problem? I don't think I ever had a use for them ever after I finished that course. Sometimes you wonder why you take these courses..
Glad's use of math in his articles has always been of great interest though. At least some of this stuff is useful. 8)

lol, i took ap calc bc in my soph year of high school. after that my math skills went downhill damnit
differential equations don't have much theory on the basic level, you just memorize a bunch of routines and rules. @_@ maybe bird pwns diffeqs cuz he's aerospace engineer.

Yea, that's basically true for all types of DE. At low level, only separatable and linear DE are taught. At higher level, there are non-linear DE and partial differential equation PDE. But just have to learn other ways to solve them.

i did the majority of my degree in pde's and ode's, just gotta love that calculus )
U use PDE's @ work birdy? nice wink

02-06-2005 13:02:30
Well, a little. The wave pde is used in structural dynamics/vibrations. But all we use to solve it is NASTRAN. The things in textbook aren't that useful because we need to solve systems of pde's. lol

OMG you guys have te knowledge I need.
Wanna help me do the sums on an axe I've designed. Bird or Jups?
Had this in my head over a decade I'd of forgot it years ago but i KNOW it's gonna work. I already have design I need someone to do sums see which angle's (two of angles needing to be curved) best to create desired effect.
The end result will be an axe that sends a shock into your split (cut) a microsecond after the initial shock/cut. This should split logs much faster and provide a deeper bite for competition cutters.
Interested? 50% of profits after expenses and bragging rights to whoever wants to help.

liek bird is the plane maker, now he can be the axe maker too
Rambozo
02-06-2005 18:42:22
Who be te axe grinder?....
It's very simple in theory. But the actual engineering/math involved is beyond me. I guessed all my math in head right up to year 10 and learned no formulas. Once sums got bigger/more complex than I could do in my head I was completely lost...
If you interested i show you the plan if you like it we'll do it. If you don't just say no, i'm cool... D
